Visitors to RNYC

Welcome!

RNYC extends a warm welcome to private yachts and their crews visiting Blyth. On approach, please call Blyth Harbour on VHF Ch 12. The Harbour will advise of any commercial shipping movements or other hazards. Blyth is a commercial port; do not impede commercial shipping using the fairway.

Stay on the correct side of the fairway until clear to make your turn into the South Harbour, leaving sufficient space at the round end for vessels leaving. Berth on the north side of the most northerly pontoon. We can sometimes offer alternative berths depending on yacht movements. The charge is £1.50 per metre per 24 hrs with a minimum charge of £12.00. You should pay at HY Tyne.

The House Yacht has showers - by reputation the best on the North East coast - a bar, and our steward, Alan Hall, serves excellent food, although if you want a 'proper' meal for several people you should contact him first on 01670 353636 or steward@rnyc.org.uk.

A limited quantity of red diesel in cans is available on application to the steward. Red diesel is not available at South Harbour, but there are nearby garages selling road diesel. Water and electricity are available on the pontoons but you will need to purchase a pre-payment card for electricity at the Club. The Club can put you in touch with divers, marine engineers, yacht chandlers and sail makers.

From the South Harbour it is a 15-20 min walk into the centre of Blyth, although there are corner shops on the way. Taxis and car hire are available, and buses run past the road entrance to the South Harbour. Some visitors use Blyth as a base for visiting our famous attractions in the North East of England such as the World Heritage sites of Hadrian's Wall and Durham Cathedral or the attractions of Alnwick Castle and Alnwick Garden. Newcastle upon Tyne is the nearest major city, where there is a mainline railway station and an international airport. Blyth is conveniently placed for north sea ferries operating through the Port of Tyne. If planning a visit the Visit Northumberland website is a good starting point.

You can be assured of a traditional Northumbrian welcome at RNYC. When eventually you decide to depart, please first call the Harbour on VHF Channel 12.
